Why I Hate Bollywood | | Why I do not Watch Bollywood Notice: This is not to say all Indian movies are bad, just Bollywood movies.
A Bollywood movie refering to the song-dance-rape-fight formula movie
in an Indian language starring either a politician's son or a progency
of yet another Bollywood actor/actress. For Record: I have tremendously enjoyed good Indian movies -- I will name
some to preempt the flames: Pather Panchali (Bengali), Kadu, Bhootayyana
Maga Ayyu (both Kannada), Ardh Satya, Arth, Saransh (all Hindi). There are
many more, but by my definition above, they are not Bollywood movies. During a recent reuinon in Atlanta, my friends from India criticized me for
not being upto date with Indian movie scene. They complained
that I despise Bollywood movies, because I live in America. I didn't watch Bollywood movies even when I lived in India, and of course, I despise Bollywood movies.
They are horrible. IMHO they are an insult to the Indian art and artists. Here are some reasons why I do not watch Bollywood products
- If you have seen one, you have seen them all
- I find the dances lewd, fightings unrealistic, plots boring,
actors ugly, dialogues repetitive, and music too loud, and
the presentation, simply lacking creative genius.
- No new screen writer, director, or actor can get a chance or make an impact
unless he/she has a mafia/politician/movie industry nexus.
The ugly inbreeding of talent has led to creative bankruptcy.
- The Bollywood movie makers have no sense of realism whatsoever (examples:
rampant use of guns, rape, and pre-marriage romance)
- Actors playing multiple roles in the same movie
I sympathize with the poor of India who have no alternative
entertainment but to see the Bollywood junk (after getting addicted
to them). I honestly think that Bollywood movies are a violence against the poor and an
insult to India's thinking people. If you are Indian and there is this movie that you absolutely love, and it is made by
Bollywood (I can think of Utsav), you can still agree with my opinion -- see my clever
definition of Bollywood
