Introduction

Fighting and warfare is as old as human civilization, and Indian history is no exception. In this section of Kamat's Potpourri, we explore pictures and documents that depict warfare, battles, and military deployment in India.

While the two great Indian epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata are full of stories of bravery, warfare and military maneuvers, there is not much literature or books available on the ancient military sciences practiced in India. Most history available to us is via archeological resources and oral history (many communities in India are warrior communities; see Kshatriays), and political history.
