| Tagore and I My knowledge about Tagore's literature increased after I joined All India Radio as a programme executive (1964). All of a sudden, Dharwad radio station was asked by the directorate to start half an-hour-programme in Konkani. Goa had become free from Portugese rule and it was felt that Konkanis of Karnataka must feel more affinity with their immediate neighboring and newly formed petty state of Goa, whose entire population was Konkani-speaking. Though Konkanis are spread over the entire country, those in Karnataka outnumbered others. But this language remained only in spoken form. There were no poets, play or feature writers, or good talkers who could help with radio scripts in Dharwad. Hence I was compelled to plan, write and produce programmes in Konkani. I took refuge under Tagore's Vast umbrella!
