The Indians of the Twentieth Century

As
the twentieth century ended, Dr. Kamat roamed on the streets of India to
capture the faces of common Indians in his camera. He wrote to me --
"... these are the people I come across everyday...our milk delivery
man, the coconut vendor, vegetable vendors at the fruit-and-vegetable
market...We often forget that they are men and women just like me and you
and have interesting stories about their life. While it is not always
possible to document all their anecdotes, I am doing my best to capture
their portraits...A number of people tell me that they have never been
photographed (see also: Never
Been Photographed) before and request for a copy of the portrait..."
