The Roce ceremony is a traditional pre-wedding ritual in Konkani-speaking Catholic communities, especially among Mangalorean Catholics. This ritual involves applying coconut milk to the bride and groom as a symbolic cleansing, honoring their transition into marriage. The ceremony, often accompanied by family gatherings, music, and prayers, reflects cultural heritage and familial blessings. Similar to a pre-wedding shower, the Roce ceremony celebrates purity, unity, and familial bonds, creating cherished memories that connect families across generations.

What is Roce?

Roce (pronounced "Ros") is the juice extracted from coconut pulp -- it is not coconut juice, but more like coconult milk. It is also the name of a popular Konkani dish made from the same ingediannt and served with molasses and elaschis and rice noodles.
