The Town the Time Forgot
It gives us great joy to introduce the town of Honavar (our hometown), to the world-wide audience. Of all the stories
Kamat has written, the one
about his hometown is the most dear one to him. It represents original research,
photography and passion developed over a lifetime.
Indeed, the town of Honavar is the central theme of Kamat's last book,
"Marupayana" (The Return Journey, 2001).

Where is Honavar? The town of Honavar (also spelled as
Honnavar, and Honawar) is located on the Arabian Sea coast about 500 miles south of
Mumbai where the mighty Sharavati river (not so mighty in 1999,
after a series of dams were built) joins sea. See a map
showing Honavar.
