Pulwama is a district in Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. On February 14, 2019 a suicide bomber affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed drove an explosive ridden vehicle into a convoy of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force, India's largest paramilitary force) soldiers, killing 40 of them.
The timing of the attack was very unfortunate. There were pending elections in India and Indians in general were fed up of Pakistan's support for Kashmiri militants.
There was a lot of pressure on the Government of India to standup to Pakistan and to act against the Jaish-e-Mohammed, whose leader India had released in a prior terrorist bargain.
