India Index - A Full Text Reference Database on India

Kamat's Potpourri has partnered with leading scholars and publishers to create a reference and full text database specifically focusing on the art, history and culture of India called India Index.
India Index (formerly known as Kamat Research Database) consists of historical photographs, full texts of biographies, e-books, and scholarly articles. The producers have scavenged through rare manuscripts, conference proceedings, and commemorative volumes (India does not have a vibrant journals industry, and the researchers have relied on so called felicitation and commemorative volumes for their works to be published) to compile a priceless collection of digital content that is fully indexed and cross-referenced. The database dilutes the difference between an electronic encyclopedia and a citation database by providing navigations by subjects, media, geography, and time-periods. Sophisticated technology has been used to create millions of interconnected hyperlinks. It is hoped that this innovative product will fill a long standing void of lack of English language reference database on one of mankind's oldest civilizations, and what has been a birthplace of so many religions and reform movements.
The product is expected to be released in 2005.. If you are interested in knowing the progress of this project, please sign up at Kamat Research Database mailing list at Yahoo!
