Dr. Prafulla Chandra Ray's life was a unique amalgam of the knowledge of chemistry and his attachment to the liberal views of the Brahmo Samaj. He went to Edinburgh University for his higher studies in chemistry and after acquiring excellence in the subject he returned to India not only to pursue scientific academic career but also to develop insight into the social and economic implications of science and its power to ameliorate the conditions of men and society.
