N.Y. Shareef

Mr. Shareef has taken the heights of patriotism. He has crushed the reactionary forces beneath the logic of liberty.

Few can equal him in political depth, but none can dispute him the palm of integrity.

He was born at Nagpur, February 28th, 1890. his father intended that he should be a priest but destiny intended otherwise. He received his early education at Rajnandgaon. Then he joined the Union Free Church High School. In1909 he matriculated and entered the Hislop college. In 1910 he sailed for England.

He joined the downing College and took the Law Tripos in 1912. Then he was called to the Bar. Returning he set up his practice at Calcutta. In 1916 he moved to Nagpur and joined the High Court Bar. His interest in politics was revealed when he toured round the Congress Party in connection with the Franchise Committee.

He became one of the moving sprits of the Khilafat movement. As the President of the Provincial Muslim League he organized the agitation. For many years he was a member of the Congress Party Legislative Council and later became a Minister.

He is a man of high courage and deep convictions. He is a true Muslim and a great Indian Says Mr. Shareef: "I am seeing the Light now-it is the light of Freedom and love, that light will make you real men and deserving children of Allah." Mr.Sharref is the echo of the political thought of his age. He has directed his meditations towards the equality of religion persuasions. This is a token of his great mind. The freedom of the country is the basis of his principles; the spread of concord his religion; the service to the unlettered humanity his duty.

In the Congress Party  cabinet he holds the portfolio of Law and Order. With the sole power of thought and will and of expressions e has dazzled the Central Provinces. He has understood that the true strength of the people is the moral strength. His genius has cemented the fabrics of communal peace.

His youth appears ripe enough for his country to entrust him with the helm in the tempest.
