K.Bashyam Iyengar

It is indeed task to chronicle the life of Mr. K.Bashyam Iyengar who has built up a solid reputation and made a mark upon the politics of Madras.

He marshelled the forces of the Congress to take part in the historic struggle. In that sphere his great constructive powers found play. He destroyed at a blow the whole political stage on which the bureaucracy worked. The triumph of the congress was complete.

As an advocate he has won the hearty and enthusiastic recognition. He is one of the most distinguished members of the Madras Bar after graduating from the Madras College. He rose to high eminence under the leadership of Mr.S.Srinivasa Iyengar who was his political and professional mentor. His classical work on "Negotiable Instrument" made him a luminary in the legal world. He was appointed a judicial officer but wisely declined the offer.

He joined the staff of the National College started by Dr. Besant. During the Salt Satyagraha he has utilized all his resources to relieve the numerous volunteers who suffered through police excesses. He efficiently organized the Satyagraha campaign. The telegram dispatched by Gandhiji immediately after signing the Pact is a fitting tribute to his organizing genius. "Sacrifices such as yours have given us what we have got."
