B.S. Shastry was born on 17 August 1938 and passed away prematurely in Goa on 8 June 1991 in an accident . He worked for his doctorate under the well-known historian and archivist P.S.S. Pissurlencar. He started his career in Goa as a lecturer in history at the Chowgule College (Margao, Goa) and later came to head the departments of history at the Centre of Post-Graduate Instruction and Research (Panaji) and the Goa University (Bambolim), respectively. Gifted with a pleasing personality, Prof. Shastry was research guide to a number of students and was often invited to take part in international and national conferences on topics of Indo-Protuguese history.
