Biography: Amjad Ali Khan

Born in 1945 in Gwalior, Madya Pradesh, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan learnt sarod from his fatherUstad Hafiz Ali Khan,an illustrious representative of the Senai Gharana and among the earliest Fellows of the academy.He began perfoming in public while still in his teens and establioshed himself soon as an instrumentalist of exceptional ability.He has evolved a style that is conventional in technique but highly indivisual in spirit.

Among our foremost sarod players today,Ustad Amjad Ali Khan has performed extensively at home and abroad frm the 60's.He has introduced innovations in classical music and besides composed vocal and orchestral music for children He is a guru to several musicians of the yonger generation,players of sarod and sitar.Among other honours, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan received the unesco award in 1970 and Padma shri in 1975.
