Abstract:In the ancient as well as medieval times palanquin was the major medium of transport of the wealthy people. Here the author brings forth the facilities provided in this charming vehicle which was decorated as per the taste of the user. Various foreign travelers like Caesar Fredrick (1567-68), Peter Mundy (1632) Edward Terri (1650-60), Petra Della Valle (1623) have given glimpses of their travel in their travelogue. The dress and the headgear of the carriers of the vehicle, their honesty, the musicians, the story tellers who accompanied the party have been dealt in length by these travelers.
