Abstract:Field trials were caried out to explore the possibilities of controlling mustard aphid, Lipaphis Erysimi Kalt on radish plants meant for seed crop by insecticidal root dipping during transplanting. Four insecticides, viz., lindane, phophamidon, phorate and thiometon were used as emulsions, the, the concentrations used were: 0.1 per cent, 0.25 per cent and 0.5 per cent. The three year results of the trials showed that phorate ( 0.25 and 0.5 per cent) and thiometon (0.1,0.25 and 0.5 per cent protected the crop at least up to 58 days from aphid infestation. Phosphamidon proved to be phytotoxic, while lindane was not effective. It is concluded that by following the root dipping technique with phorate and thimeton aphid infestation can be successfully controlled and this will enable the production of healthy radish seeds.
