Title:Study of Foreign Travellers' Accounts; What Next ?

Abstract:In the following way the study of foreign travellers accounts can be carried further. Both Tavernier and Bernier apart from India, have written about other countries like Persia, where Indian merchants controlled trade and finance. We must know about indians in Persia from this account. Secondly Thouh we have complete translation of foreigner`s accounts, but we have neglected to read about these writings relating to countries other than India. We have paid attention to what the Chinese have written about India , but not bothered to know what they have to tell about the activities of Indians in China during the first 1000 years of the christian era. Lastly there are some travel accounts which have escaped our historians attention- Tom Piraes`s `The Suma Oriental~ which contains valuable account of Vijayanagara in Krishnadevaraya`s time. There are also many foreign travellers especially German about whom we do not know anything. It is hightime we make an earnest attempt to find out these accounts and translate them from European languages into English and Indian languages.
