Abstract:Chitradurga is called Himbapattana,has a Hidimbeshwara temple and an inscription of Uchchangi dated 1046 also speaks of Hidimbasura. The paper discusses many major archeological remains associated with the Pandavas and Hidimba and argue that people claiming to be successors of Hidimba might have come and settled down in the region.It is also believed that Ghatotkacha built a town and the settlement might be of 1st or 2nd century AD.
