Abstract:Rajasthan has a rich heritage of handicrafts: tie and dye work; embroidery, textiles and felted materials in Malpera village near Jaipur; marble statues of deities and toys made of white Makrana or black Bhaislana marble; lacquered objects in Jaipur and Jodhpur; shellac bracelets (churis), prepared and sold by manihars; enamel work in Jaipur, Nathdwara and Pratapgarh; kundan work, i.e., the art setting of precious stones in gold; lapidary (cutting of precious and semi-precious stones) of Jaipur; metalware; steel arms; pottery of various types; hand-made paper; camel-hide work; ivory work, with important centres at Bharatpur, and Jaipur; and wood carving. The manufacturing techniques of some of these crafts are elaborated.
