Abstract: | The dynamic socio-economic system achieved by Akbar declined in the time of Jahangir and Shah Jahan. This coincides with an over-culture among the Mughal ruling oligarchy. Jahangir attempted to synthesize the Central Asian, Persian, and indigenous traditions. After Jahangir, there was a diffusion of the various schools of art: the direct Mughal tradition of the 18th century, various Rajasthani sub-schools which grew under Mughal influence, and the Kangra, Deccani, Lucknow, and Murshidabad kalam.
