Title: | The Greater Metropolitan Region New Light on Hampi: Recent Research at Vijayanagara, edited by John M. Fritz and George Michell, | Authors: | Sinopoli, Carla M. and Kathleen D. Morrison | Publication: | Marg | Enumeration: | Vol. 53-1, September 2001, p. 100-111 | Abstract: | Documented are the rapidly disappearing, present-day local crafts, such as earthenware pottery, thereby contributing to a better understanding of Vijayanagara's past economic life. As directors of the Vijayanagara Metropolitan Survey the authors gathered evidence right from prehistoric sites from the hinterland surrounding the core of the capital but presented here are the findings from the Vijayanagara-period sites under the sections: forts and roads; agricultural and craft production; sacred sites which indicate that diverse communities of warriors, religious specialists, agriculturists, craft producers, pastoralists, and many others inhabited the area.
