Abstract:The Kuchipudi school was founded by Siddhendra Yogi (c. 1350-1450). It became popular all over south India under the Vijayanagara empire and the Tanjore court, and Kuchipudi village (in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh) was endowed to the artistes by the Golconda Nawab Abdul Hasan Tahisha. The article discusses the salient features of Kuchipudi, its performance, and exponents during the 19th and 20th centuries.
