Abstract:The article describes the technique and presentation of Chhau in Mayurbhanj (Orissa). Chhau has three types of bhava (the ruling aesthetic mood of the dance) -- Hatiardhara, Kalibhang, and Kalikata -- and three distinct aspects of nritta, nritya, and natya. Nritta is contained in the basic steps and gaits termed as uflis and topkas. Chhau also has a number of set bhangis (movements).
