Title:Indian Resist-dye Fabrics Treasures of Indian Textiles: Calico Museum Ahmedabad,
Author:Bühler, Alfred
Publication:Marg
Enumeration:Vol. 33-1, p. 97-110
Abstract:All resist-dyeing techniques are based on the two elementary forms of folding and screening. These two forms developed into the following main types of resist-dyeing: fold, stitch, wrap, tie, stencil, paste or wax, mordant, and resist-dyeing yarn to be woven after patterning. The article describes each of these types. Also discussed are the techniques and main centres of the laheria wrap-resist-dyed fabrics in Rajasthan, bandhani in Gujarat and Rajasthan, ikat in Orissa and Andhra Pradesh, and patola and mashru in Gujarat.
