Introduction to Orissi Dance

Title:Introduction to Orissi Dance
Author:Fabri, Charles
Publication:Marg
Enumeration:Vol. 13 Issue no. 2; March 1960, p. 4-5
Abstract:The writer believes that there are at least eight systems of classical Indian dance, including Odissi. Odissi is at least seven hundred years old, although it has only recently emerged out of the temple precincts of Jagannath in Puri. There is urgent need to publish the ancient manuscripts dealing with the rules of Odissi, and to relate the poses described in these manuscripts to the ones depicted on various Orissan temple walls. Odissi resembles Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, but it is a simpler dance.
