The Transformation of Persepolis Architectural Motifs into Sculpture under the Indian Mauryan Dynasty

Title:The Transformation of Persepolis Architectural Motifs into Sculpture under the Indian Mauryan Dynasty
Author:Wheeler, Mortimer
Publication:Marg
Enumeration:Vol. 24 Issue no. 4; September 1971, p. 55-62
Abstract:The Persian artisans, displaced after the fall of the empire of Susa, Ekbatana, and Persepolis, found refuge and patronage under the imperial Mauryas. The Achemenid pattern is evident in the remains at the Mauryan capital Pataliputra -- the rock-cut structures, sandstone columns, and column capitals of the Ashokan period (c. 250 BCE).
