Chakrabarti, | Author: | Chakrabarti, Dilip K. | Publication: | Marg | Enumeration: | Vol. 55 No. 3; March 2004, pp. 6-22 | Abstract: | The study of the Indus Civilization began with the excavations of 1920--;21 and 1921--;22 at Harappa and Mohenjodaro respectively, and we are now in its fourth phase. The chronology of the civilization and its antecedents has now been established between 3300--;1300 BCE. The settlements show a centralized planning, some with twin sectors. The four important staple crops --; wheat, barley, millets, and rice --; were cultivated throughout the Harappan phase. Domesticated animals, manufacture of pottery, crafts, and seals were other important features of the civilization. Source of Abstract: Provided by Publisher | Tools: |
