Abstract: | The Buddha images at Ajanta and Ellora show little change in treatment through the decades, and conform to two basic types -- cross-legged, and with feet firmly planted on the ground. However, his retinue developed from few sedate attendents in the beginning to larger and more elaborate groups. The article illustrates images of the Buddha and his retinue from Ajanta, Elephanta, Aurangabad, Ghatotkacha, and Ellora. Source of Abstract: Provided by Publisher |
