Multipurpose Kamat.com | | One Website, So Many Uses I know that our website is used as a reference in many schools and
universities to learn about Gandhi and India. Yet, I get tickled when
educators use it in ways that I never imagined. Examples:
- To learn English -- for some students in France, reading an article from our
site and learning five new words is homework!
- To learn religious sensitivity -- the FBI, the Police in U.K., and
U.S.A, use our website regularly in their ethnic sensitivity courses. This
has taken a bigger role in the post-911 law-enforcement. I have a
joke about it: After using a lot of money, bribes, kidnapping, and blackmail,
Osama-bin-Laden figures out a way to decrypt the FBI-CIA signals, and all he gets to see
is contents of Kamat's Potpourri ! (The educational programs of FBI and
secret service are
carried on the same encrypted network, as their business)
- To learn web navigation and web technology -- our Timeline of
India, and the Sitemap are
cited as great examples of providing easy navigation for complex subject matters.
Studying Kamat's Potpourri from a technology perspective is an assignment during a multi-media/new
media courses in two universities.
- As an archive of rare images -- licensees include TV stations (BBC/A&E),
textbook publishers (in Australia, Germany, and Ireland), newspapers (Boston
Globe/NY Times), and collectible picture-card makers. Yesterday a researcher
working on alternate
positions during child-birth was overjoyed at discovering some positions
prevalent in India a long time ago.
