Biography: Shankar Ghosh

 Shri Shankar Ghosh, born in 1935, is inter nationally acclaimed as one of the greatest tabala players. His unique baaj is one of the land mark in the history of the subject. gifted with a supremely innovative brain, he has brought revolution in the sphere of tabala playing, accompaniment, composition, and overall percussion experimentation. Shri Ghosh received his early training from Pandit Anath Nath Bose of Bengal. His future training came from Ustad Feroz Khan of Punjab gharana, from Pandit Sudarshan Adhikari of Lucknow gharana and finally from the legendary maestro Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh, founder of Calcutta gharana. he also obtained training from Shri Prasun Banerjee and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan in vocal and instrumental music respectively. He has preformed in India and and abroad as soloist and accompanist with renowned maestros of vocal and instrumental. He has also been visiting professor in foreign universities. Besides given innumerable performances all over the country and abroad, Shri Ghosh has concentrated on variety of experimental works. He composed and conducted the unique all drum orchestra 'The Calcutta Drum Orchestra'.
