Biography: Shankar Krishnaji Gavankar

Mr. Shankar was born at Ratnagiri, July 2nd 1879. In the Non Cooperation days he suspended his practice and conducted a Rashtriya Sabha. In 1930 he organized the picketing of liquor shops. He was arrested and sentenced to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 100. After his release he was again sentenced to 2 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs.1000.

He is heroic in his sacrifice. His selfless service has added to his importance in political circles.
