Biography: S.V. Thakar
A sunny lad romping to the music of the pipes. The atmosphere was surcharged with great excitement. He saw the redoubtable Lokamanya Tilak, sitting stiff and stately in the cart of ropes of which were shared by thousands. He shouted "Lokamanya Ki Jai" in high glee. The charm of the spectacle never faded from his mind. From that day he memorized National songs, wore Khadi and read National Literature. Every morning he decorated the portrait of Tilak with a garland of fresh-blown jasmines. He received early education at Pachiappa High School, Madras and Nutan Marathi Vidyalalya, Poona. As a student he was taciturn and cold. In 1918 he graduated from Fergusson College. His visit to the Sabarmati Ashram profoundly impressed him. Then he served as a teacher in National High School, Amalver. For three years he worked as the Secretary of the Maharastra Khadi Board. Thereafter he took up propaganda work in the West Khandesh. He settled in a village and began re-construction work. He participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement and courted imprisonment thrice. He was elected the President of the District Congress Committee. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the M.P.C.C and the A.I.C.C. he was one of he General Secretaries of the Faizpur Congress Convestion. Mr.Thakar is a member of the Gandhi Seva Sangh he is carrying on the constructive programme of the Congress. Remarkable is his work in the villages, still more remarkable is the method by which it is accomplished. His life is a singular example of uncompromising devotion to a principle.
