Biography: Dattatreya Kashinath Kunte

Mr. Kunte was born at Nagaon in 1908. He took the B.A and L.L.B degree of the Bombay University. In 1930 he organized and led bands of peasants in the Forest and Salt Satyagrahas. He was arrested and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 100.

Dattatreya Kashinath Kunte

He was the Secretary of the Maharashtra Provincial Congress held at Panvel in 1931. In 1932 he was one of the organizers of the Civil Disobedience Movement in Maharashtra. He was again sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 300. He is also founder of "Rashtra Tej" a Nationalist weekly and is a member of the A.I.C.C. He is also elected to the Assembly form the Kolaba District.
