Biography: Bhagwanji Arjan Khimji
Mr. Khimji remains unsurpassed for his keen business insight. He possessed in the highest degree all the qualities desirable for an ideal merchant and a devout Congressman. As an impeccable merchant he may be considered the summation of the Indian genius. He is a man of immensely wide interests. By virtue of personality, a gift for sympathy, and a brilliant way of showing his readiness of thought he has become an outstanding figure. K.L. Kamat/Kamat's Potpourri The main interest and importance of Mr.Khimji's career lies in the fact that he is the first national minded of merchants. He was born at Khamgaon, July 28th 1902. Quite at an early age he has reached the peak of his glory. He is the president of the Bombay Cottons Merchants and Muccadums' Association Ltd. A director of the East India Cotton Association Ltd., a member of the Advisory Committee (Bombay) of the G.I.P Railway; a member of the Indian Merchants Chamber, Bombay; and a Treasurer of the Bombay Legislature Congress Party. Mr. Khimji is the Trustee of several charitable institutions and a Director of myriad Joint Stock companies. On many occasions. Being a man of culture and social spirit he has bought integrity into business. In the Civil Disobedience Movement he was one of the cotton merchant who organized the boycott of English firms in the trade. This led to his detention by the Local government along with three others. The result was an immediate deadlock in the local cotton market and the detained merchants had at once to be released. The clarity of his vision and his organizing abilities are remarkable.
