A Guess on the Death of Bijjala

Title:A Guess on the Death of Bijjala
Author:G.S Dikshit
Publication:Itiasa Darshana / Karnataka Itihasa Academy, Bangalore
Enumeration:Vol 17, 2002
Abstract:The author with the help of Annigere inscription dated 1184 ( SII, XV No 59) opines that Bommarasa, the former general of Kalachuris of Kalyan shifted his allegiance to Chalukya emperors, and killed Bijjala ,the Kalchuri ruler for allegedly killing his father Kavana , Bijjala’s loyal general on the suspicion of treason. From this above inscription Prof Dikshit surmises the date of Bijjala’s death as 1183-84 and not 1167-68 and the killers Jagadeva and Mallabomma with the military assistance from Bommarasa must have done the job.
