Abstract:The article deals with the different dimensions of drinking habits vogue among Kannadigas in the ancient times. She has given in detail how the wines were extracted from corn, fruits etc. The article quotes from literature like Vikramarjuna Vijaya of Pampa, Manasollas, Kalhana`s Rajatarangini, Torave Ramayana Mohanatarangini, Ramanataha Charite Ramavijaya Kavya etc,Inscriptions depict the the sculptural representation of the drinking habits and behavioural aspects of both men and women. The author also has compared the creditability of the drinking habit with the present distorted version of the same habit. The habit which was occasional during ceremonies and wars has become a routine in modern times and hence warns the ill effects of drinking and suggests the limited use of the same.
