Selling like hot fakes: well-known Indian painter is angered by imitations of his work

Title:Selling like hot fakes: well-known Indian painter is angered by imitations of his work
Author:Suraiya, Jug
Publication:Far Eastern Economic Review
Enumeration:vol. 157, p. 34-5, (March 3 1994)
Abstract:M.F. Hussain, arguably India's most accomplished contemporary artist, is angered by reproductions of his work. The copies are being marketed by Rimari, a Bombay-based enterprise that sells "art at affordable prices" to private and corporate collectors. Hussain has issued a notice of "caution" in the national press regarding the sale and purchase of plagiarized works. His warning has sparked debate in the art world about what constitutes legitimate art in an increasingly commercialized environment.
