General Surveys of Schools of Rajasthani Painting: Mewar
Title: | General Surveys of Schools of Rajasthani Painting: Mewar | Author: | Goetz, Hermann | Publication: | Marg | Enumeration: | Vol. 11 Issue no. 2; March 1958, p. 38-41 | Abstract: | The varied political history of Mewar in medieval times renders the study of its art traditions a very difficult task. The last of the Rajput states to submit to Mughal rule, and the first to rebel, the change of painting and architectural styles here were born out of tremendous political upheavals. Few examples of Mewar art have survived but under Jagat Singh (1628-52) a distinctive school began taking shape. The Mewar school had traditional Rajasthani and Mughal influences and reached its golden age under Maharana Raj Singh (1652-81). The author considers the series of paintings in the Sarasvati Bhandar at Udaipur as the finest examples of Mewar painting. Source of Abstract: Provided by Publisher | Tools: |
