The History of Orissan Hindu Temples

Title:The History of Orissan Hindu Temples
Author:Ghose, Deva Prasad
Publication:Marg
Enumeration:Vol. 8 Issue no. 4; September 1955, p. 34-37
Abstract:Orissan temple architecture and art developed between the 7th and 13th centuries. The decorative vocabulary of these Bhubaneswar temples developed from the early Indian conventions and Sunga and Gupta traditions to the gradual evolution of a local Orissan school in the Muktesvar temple. Dravidian influence is visible in the vimana of the Vaital Deul. The Lingaraj temple represents the Orissan temple in its final evolution, while Konarak represents the climax of the Orissan craftsman's search for beauty.
