Abstract:Alexander's invasion of the orient generated a close and strong connection between India and Egypt. During Ptolemaic rule (323-30 BCE), Alexandria became an active cultural centre. In Roman times, commercial relations between Alexandria and India increased rapidly, as reflected in archaeological finds in India. These finds include bronze statuettes of Egyptian deities (in Gandhara), and cosmetic palettes or trays in Taxila.
