Word of the day: Kaampalai | |
In the bazar of my town Honavar, one of the most common expressions heard is "kaampalai". I also use it in Konkani, but I really hadn't found a good equivalent in other languages (Indian or English). Then I read Dave Winer's comment on current Debt Ceiling Crisis.
He bluntly said "Do your f**king jobs!" And it occurred to me. That's exactly what "kaampalai" means! It is not vulgar, but as insulting. Today I want to shout a loud "kaampalai" to politicians in USA (who are behaving just like politicians in India) and to politicians in India (who are behaving just like they have always done).
