Pandit Madhav Gudi No More | |
(got via private message this morning) Dear Vikas, I am deeply saddened, to inform you that Pandit Madhav Gudi, one of the eminent disciples of late Pt. Bhimsen Joshi-- passed away in the early hours of this morning at a private hospital here.He was ailing with liver problems for more than a month and all efforts to save him failed even after expert treatment in Mumbai, Hubli and Dharwad. I knew him as a schoolboy, living in our locality (of Dharwad). He learnt his early lessons in classical music from my uncle Late Nageshrao Deshpande, from his age of 8,and then attracted the attentioin of Pt.Joshi, due to his natural talent and resonant voice matching that of Pt.Joshi himself.Since then he had been a favorite shishya and devoted accompanist for four decades. He has given saath to Joshi in many concerts in India and abroad. He was very much upset after the demise of his Guru and followed him to Heavens within a short span of time. May his soul rest in eternal peace. VK uncle
