A Revolution of Our Times | |
It has been fascinating for me to see history unfold in Egypt and Tunisia (and now spreading to Jordan). A nation belongs to her people. A leader no matter how great or how compassionate must learn to stand aside. Thirty years is too many.
I encourage Egyptians to take inspiration in India's epic non-violent Freedom Struggle -- how a whole generation of leaders came together to build a new country -- and I am reminded again and again of Nehru's famous words today: A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. With best wishes to the people of Egypt.
