Arizona's Shame | |
Arizona's not-elected-by-people (she became the Governor after her predecessor resigned to serve in Obama administration) Governor Jan Brewer has made "Hating of Mexicans" legal in the state. I'm an immigrant -- almost everybody in America is an immigrant -- and I feel that no good will come out of an anti-immigrant law. The poor Mexicans who come to America -- whether legally or illegally -- are the backbone of America's farming, home construction, and maintenance industries. It is amazing to be how many of the Mexican-hating Americans hire them as nannys, lawn-care workers and roof workers with direct knowledge that they are cheap labor and might be undocumented workers in USA. A clear case of hypocrisy.
Illegal immigration is a social and economic problem. It is not a law-and-order problem. Too bad the Governor and the people who support her decision don't know it. I didn't know this --- Arizona was once part of Mexico, and we really have to question the role of Jan Brewer in shaping a national policy of the United States of America.
