Very rarely do you get to hear a report that explains concisely, yet elaborately how American system works. The other day NPR's Gisele Grayson produced such a masterpiece: How a Medical Company Created a Need to Sell its Prescription. It is a brilliant investigative piece that exposes the genius of innovation, manipulation, marketing brilliance, and money games that makes America what it is. In the story, you can substitute medicine with software, debt, legal advice or even food products, and the story will hold good. In my experience and studies, this is how things are done in the USA. There most certainly is an element of cynicism in the story, which I don't want you to miss. On another recent American story, someone sued Microsoft for XML format (what?!) and now Microsoft cannot ship their flagship Office product. Link to story on ComputerWorld Welcome to America. The rich, the powerful and the absurd all play the same game against fellow Americans humans.
