I just had a bad billing experience with Yahoo. It was over a very small amount ($34.95) but it's not about money. One of my domains was up for renewal on 7th of July and since Yahoo increased the domain renewal to $34.95, I moved it to GoDaddy on June 22d and canceled the plan at Yahoo on June 23rd. Guess what, they charged me anyway, and said that I should have canceled before 23rd. When I called them for refund, they refused. They are claiming that they are free to charge before the renewal date. So I asked where my domain was (it wouldn't show up in my domains) and they say it's not there because I canceled. So I told the rep that if he cannot help me, I'd call the credit card company and dispute the charge, because this seems like a modus operandi -- they are engaging in to screw small businesses. Then he threatens me that he'd cancel all my domains if I did that. Instead of fighting with the little guy, I decided to write this blog entry. I think by spreading the word that Yahoo will charge for domains even if you transfer them prior to the renewal date, I will serve my fellow webmasters. I also hope that someone at Yahoo reads this, because it is an unfair practice.
They have taken my money and canceled my domain. See Also:
No tears left for Yahoo
