PBS: Michael Wood's The Story of India is a wonderful new addition to the list of websites that romanticizes the diversity and richness of India. Review of "The Story of India" Website If you are a regular reader of this website, there is nothing new, but coming from an authoritative source, and including lesson plans and videos this can be an excellent introduction to the plurality of India. The prose and even pictures are extensively annotated and hyperlinked. You can see the tremendous effort that has gone into this website. However, as do all western representations, it fails to document why India is that way. After the experience, the reader will come out reading about the exotic India, as if it is on another planet, but with no appreciation of India's deeply rooted traditions or the present situation in India that is the complex mix of caste and class conflict, corruption and struggle to keep languages and traditions alive.
