Kamat in Indian Express | | © Vikas Kamat
I took this picture in the year 2000 at the Malleswaram Post Office of a sight very common to me -- Bappa mailing an envelope. Just before mailing, he would always pause to make sure the envelope was stamped. The photograph captures that moment. It also shows the dangling bags from his left arm; they were charactersistically his. The Khaki bag was stitched by me.Anyway, several people have told me that they saw this photograph in Indian Express. No, they didn't ask me, nor have they credited kamat.com next to the image as is required by law/common law.
I know that there are a lot of smaller newspapers/periodicals in India that use our site as a source of "clip art", but I didn't think the New Indian Express was one of them. Times of India is different. They steal both the photographs as well as articles. My father would have said "ijar bhi levo, pagadi bhi levo" -- "Take my pants, and take my turban as well!"
