While I have enjoyed the occasional deer and rabbits in my backyard, I was very surprised to find a Red Fox family the other day. There are several puppies and the mama fox is keeping a watch. TinTin Encounters her Cousins Of course, the highlight of this experience has been watching our dog TinTin make sense of the new animals. I think TinTin is fond of the puppies, and wants to play with them, but she is weary of the cunning mother, and wants to chase her out. It is advised not to allow the domesticated dogs to play with the wild foxes. The foxes might have rabies. TinTin Encounters "Black Socks"
I have named one of the fox puppies as "Black Socks" for obvious reasons. Black Socks Poses
During all my years in India, I had never seen a wild fox. We used to hear them at nights though... A funny thing I remember is that if a sugar-cane turned red inside (it happens sometimes), we claimed that the cane had come in contact with the foxes' fart . As kids we never ate the sugar-cane that had red smearings... FYI: Foxes are notorious farters. I believe they use it as a seduction move.
