Introduction

Pioneered by Yahoo!, human classified directories are perhaps web's first application. We started listing and classifying websites that were of interest to us sometime in 1999, and added the DMOZ listings sometime in the year 2000.

But soon I discovered that maintain this list was tedious, time consuming and discontinued the effort in 2001.

Since then Google has emerged strongly and its powerful PageRank™ link analysis has become the fundamental fiber of the web. This means publishers need many more incoming links, and the interest in web directories has rekindled.

We present below a unique experiment in building web directories. They are somewhat based on Library of Congress Subject Classification External Link (and diluted by my twisting of their definitions and interpretations) system and include a large number of organic (in house) links to Kamat's Potpourri website.
