Nemdhari Sinha
Born in 1872 at Khagari in Monghry District, Mr. Sinha comes from a Rajput family. After completing his primary education at his native place, he went to Calcutta and took his degree wit honours. He selected Law as his career, and after passing his B.L examination started practice in 1904.
He made his mark in the profession, and soon reached the top commanding a large practice. Politics attracted his attention and he began attending Congress sessions. He was elected Municipal Commissioner thrice before 1920.
In 1921 when the non cooperation movement was started, he gave up practice, and took charge of the local Congress Committee, when the previous incumbents of the office were arrested. He managed the affairs of the Congress with remarkable ability for more than two years.
On the arrest of Babu Sri Krishna Sinha in 1930 due to his participation in the C.D movement. Mr.Sinha again left the law court and became the President of the District Congress Committee, and directed the Salt Satyagraha campaign in the District. On 15th November 1930 he was arrested and sentenced to six months rigrous imprisonment and fine. To realize the fine, Government attached his property.
He was released on the signing of the Gandhi Irwin pact, before the expiry date of his term. In 9132 he was again sentenced to two years and fine. As the fine was not paid his remaining properties were attached and auctioned.
Nothing daunted, Mr Sinha came out of jail determined to continue the fight to the biter end. But his health failed as he had contracted malaria in jail.
He had a providential escape during the disaster in 1934, when his house collapsed and almost buried him under the debris. He threw himself into relief work and was in charge of the relief operation in Monghyr District.
He has been elected the Chairman of the District Board. He is a member of the A.I.C.C and President of the District Congress Committee.
